Brno to Vienna: Train or Private Transfer? What to Choose

The short answer: the fastest way from Brno to Vienna is the direct train, which takes about 1.5 hours station to station. By road the trip is roughly 137 km (85 miles) and usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours. A private transfer costs more than a train ticket, but it picks you up where you are staying, carries your luggage for you and can add a stop on the way. Here is how to decide.

How far is Brno from Vienna?

Brno is the capital of South Moravia and lies about 110 km north of Vienna in a straight line. By road the two cities are about 137 km (85 miles) apart, and a route planner such as ViaMichelin quotes about 1 hour 39 minutes in

normal traffic. From Brno the route follows the D52 motorway to Pohořelice, then main roads through the Mikulov area to the Austrian border, where the A5 motorway takes over toward Vienna. By train: fast, simple, station to station

Direct trains connect Brno's main station (Brno hlavní nádraží) with Vienna's main station (Wien Hauptbahnhof). The fastest ÖBB Railjet services take about 1 hour 31 minutes, and Czech operator RegioJet also runs trains on the route. Timetables and fares change, so check the current schedule with the operators before you plan around a

specific departure.

The train works well if you are traveling light, staying near a station and comfortable buying tickets online. Some

Railjet services also serve Vienna International Airport, so look at the timetable if you are flying in or out.

By private transfer: door to door
