Wine Tour from Brno
This wine tour starts and ends in Brno. Mikulov lies about 50 km south of the city, so most of the day is spent in the wine region rather than on the road. Moravia grows about 96% of Czech wine, and the area around Mikulov and the Pálava Hills is one of its best-known corners. If you are looking for a wine tour in Brno, a Moravian wine tour or a day of wine tasting near Brno, this is the tour we built for it.
Tailored Wine Experience in South Moravia
There is no fixed script. The itinerary is adapted to your interests and fitness level: more time in the cellars, a longer walk in the gardens, or an extra lookout tower if the weather is clear. The small-group format is what makes this possible. You have real time with your guide, you can change the pace and the stops, and the day feels personal rather than standardized. A fully private tour can be arranged on request for a 25% surcharge.
Moravian Wine Culture
Wine is part of everyday life in South Moravia, from family wineries to villages of old wine cellars dug into the hillsides. On the tour you taste Moravian wines where they are made and hear how the region's winemaking traditions developed. New to Moravian wine? Read our Moravian wine guide before you go.
Mikulov and the Wine Region
Mikulov is a historic town known for its Baroque and Renaissance architecture, its rich Jewish heritage and the magnificent Mikulov Castle. You stroll through the main square and old streets, see the Dietrichstein Tomb and the Holy Hill with its Way of the Cross, and, if it is open, climb the lookout tower of St. Wenceslas Church. Nearby, the Pálava Hills, a protected landscape of limestone cliffs and vineyards recognized as a UNESCO biosphere reserve, offer views from the ruins of Sirotčí hrádek castle.
Lednice-Valtice UNESCO Landscape
The tour includes Lednice, a town at the heart of the UNESCO-listed Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. You take a walk around Lednice Castle, rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style with Tudor Revival details in the 19th century, and its landscaped gardens and greenhouses, with views of the Oriental-style Minaret rising above the park. From the Dalibor and Slunečná lookout towers you can see across the vineyards to the Pálava Hills and the Lednice-Valtice area. Deciding between the two chateaux? See Lednice vs. Valtice.
Wine Tastings and Traditional Wine Cellars
The itinerary includes opportunities for wine tasting at local wineries and traditional wine cellars, for example at the family-run Vinařství U Kapličky in Zaječí, known for wines made from estate-grown grapes, and in Vrbice, where the traditional wine cellars were built in the 16th century and carved into the local loess soil. Wine tastings are not included in the tour price and are paid directly on site. In autumn, ask about burčák, the young wine you can only get at harvest time.
