How to Get from Vienna to Kraków

Vienna to Kraków — An Underrated Route

Vienna and Kraków are two of Central Europe's most magnificent cities, yet relatively few travellers connect them directly. The distance is around 450 kilometres, a 5-6 hour drive through stunning Austrian and Polish landscapes. A private transfer makes this journey comfortable, flexible, and surprisingly enjoyable.

Why Private Transfer Makes Sense

There's no direct train between Vienna and Kraków, the rail journey takes 7-8 hours with at least one change in Katowice or Warsaw. Flights exist but add airport time and stress. A private transfer takes 5 - 6 hours door-to-door, in a comfortable vehicle, with complete flexibility on departure.

Optional Stop — Zakopane

If your schedule allows, Zakopane is about 150 minutes south of Kraków, a mountain resort town at the foot of the High Tatras with traditional wooden architecture and access to Poland's finest hiking. Adding a Zakopane stop makes for a memorable two-day itinerary: Vienna transfer to Zakopane, overnight, then Kraków the next morning.

Practical Information

- Journey time: approximately 5 hours direct

- Best departure time: early morning to arrive in Kraków for lunch

- Price: from EUR 484 for the vehicle

- Pickup: your hotel or address in Vienna

- Drop-off: your hotel or address in Kraków

Kraków Arrival Tips

The old town (Stare Miasto) and Kazimierz (Jewish Quarter) are both within walking distance of each other. Ask your driver to drop you close to the Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) — you'll be in the centre of everything. Wawel Castle and Cathedral are a 15-minute walk from there.
